Knoxie Cross

I rode my bike to the cross race and took pictures. Erin brought the dog and we enjoyed great winter weather in Tennessee.

Thank God Its Over, That Was SOOOO Much FUN!

Knoxie Cross, Race 4 of 4
It hurts so good.

What a great series! "Match Tuff" is a term used to describe a tennis players level of performance being elevated after competing in serveral matchs in a row. If the whole field is "Match Tuff", then its just a tuff match.
Todays race was the hardest yet. The Wall of Death can break your spirit. The slipery and steep 50 foot climb, at a 10% grade, became known as the Wall of Death. It was a push to the top, but a small few with granny rings could climb it.
I hung in for 9 tuff laps crossing the finish line with a flat and in 2nd place. In the end of the series I was 4th overall.

Knoxiecross #3

The starting line: A-race.

That was another great race. Thanks to all the volunteers, sponsers and promoters. It was a great showing. I was on the line with people from Asheville, Boone, Nashville, Chattanooga, N. Georgia and more.

Knoxiecross #2

Snow covered the peaks of the Smokies, but the the Tennessee Valley quickly warmed up to 44 degrees by mid-race.
My winning strategy in most racing is to go out and have fun, regardless of results. I took my eyes off the prize and got wound up about todays race. In doing so, I came off the line like a limp peter chasing the rabit. It wasn't until the disaster set in that I begun my comeback. It took me three laps to realize that the urge to puke wasn't going away. About that time I saw a few opportunities to make a move and pass rather than be passed. I played leap frog with at least one other rider and reeled in another. In the end I came in 7th.
Hindsight: I made a poor decision to ride the singlespeed mountain bike rather than the cross bike.

Magnusson put the mountain bike to use in the cross race.

Thanks to John Baker and volunteers for putting on another great race.

...and thanks to my fan club
