filling up the city skies

Bight lights, little city. I carry a crash-proof/smash-proof/water-proof/point-and-shoot camera in my back pocket.

me and my uncle went riding down...

My Dad passed away nearly 15 years ago, so when I see his lifelong friend Paul it feels like we pick up where they left off. Paul and Kathi have known me since I was a baby; so I always called them aunt and uncle.
They came to Knoxville this weekend, all the way from Austin, TX. It was great to see them, thanks Paul and Kathi. We hope to visit you in Austin again some time soon.
I really enjoyed showing Paul the town by bike. We rode to Market Square for breakfast. I snapped some cell-phone photos along the way.

We made it home by the light of fireflies. Fun night dodging rain storms. From Bearden to Forks of the River and back.

Hittin' it

We put together a great group Friday night (12 deep,) and hit the streets. Pedaled to Dead End BBQ, where complimentary pitchers were being sent to the bar / along with with free appetizers. Life is good. Cheers. Hope to do it again often.

the pretty lights

2009 Tour de Lights - 3rd Annual
Knoxville, TN
Nearly 500 people showed up and rode in this years tour of the pretty lights; cyclist were decked out in costumes and lit-up!
After the ride, there were hundreds of bikes locked-up in front of nearly every bar and restaurant downtown. The AMBC had their Christmas party at Barley's and it was great to see everyone. We have a very cool organization that is gaining a ton of momentum building new trails in Knoxville. All I want for Christmas is dirt!
After the parties, I charged home in seemingly Arctic conditions. I stopped along the way and put on every layer I had, luckily I was on the Xtra-cycle so I had plenty. I was an epic ride home.

photo of the day

I wish I could put the pieces together and add to the photos popping up from the brew ride. I'm not even sure why I took my camera. But I'm glad I made it home with it.

Here's some photos from a ride in Chattanooga.

Mockingbird Hill

1:15 hr. round trip from the house. We had dinner guest, so I had to make it back. Therefore, I launched a full on sprint to the lookout on the south-Knox bluffs and back. Then I came home and ate everything in sight.

Colorado is a nice place to visit, but a better place to rob...

...by next week, I'll be getting bermed turns for free (gondala rides instead of pedaling to the top.)
I'm gonna send it at Keystone.
It's too hot to ride in these parts. Summer peaked this weekend, and the air will take your breath away. I'm looking forward to some good ol' Rocky Mountain air.

Rides have been brief, but family time has been great. We did a family greenway ride with the Dunaways last night that was very cool (not in the sense of temperature, but in terms of radness.)We made the rounds at the local playgrounds, and all the kids had a great time.

Eric and I planned to ride Walden Ridge this morning, but ended up going to Panther Creek. After a short ride, we sat by the lake and cooled off in the water.

Maryville Greenbelt trail

Erin and I toured the Maryville Greenbelt trail with our favorite traveling baby, Macie. We parked at Springbrook Park on a cool summer Saturday morning and set off exploring. We found a farmers market in downtown Maryville. We bought a bag of peaches and we ate every single one, although I ate most. Had lunch at the Tomato Head. Played in the park. Rode all over town. We were gone for almost 7 hours. Had a great ride.

this morning photos

fun things to do with babies:

The first months of Macies life, I looked forward to her being big enough to do some fun things. Winter was cold and wet, and spring was around the corner. So her first trip to the farmers market by cycle was a much anticipated event, and on the way home-> stop by the story-telling-festival was the icing on the cake.
Erin does her long run on a weekend morning, so me and Macie were on our own today. We pedaled to the pool and splashed around. This is really a fun age. She turns one year old in July; stay tuned for details on the Macie's Day Parade.
