Bragging Rights

Locals Only Race, Concord Park Off-Road Time Trial

Meet in the park, 2 hours before high noon. Show up and blow up.
This was the only time I have ever done a race run with the pup.
That 11 minutes hurt so bad (not bad meaning bad, but bad meaning good.) I thought my run was over when I broke a chain, but I quickly realized I was at the top of the last downhill into the finish. Luckily Matt was there to remind me to keep going and not stop to fix it. Thanks Matt!
I wasn't thinking about what place I was in, so I was suprised when they told me that I won.

I don't want to use the "e" word..

...but I'm gonna say it was a back yard "epic."

Photo taken in the after math, of the 40 acre fire on the east side of Haw Ridge.

I came across the photos below in my wandering through the internet, and I thought they were cool. Taken from: Pisgah Productions blog

From Frantic Oblivion to the Top of the World... and Back

Birthdays and Leprechauns.
Life is busy lately, but life is good. Saturday's road ride from busy west Knoxville into campus and through the edge of downtown; quickly skirted out of town, via country roads, complete with Oreo cows and goats. Ben Rams, the birthday boy, led the way through roads so narrow an SUV can barely fit. Streams flowed along side the road and barns flanked the scenery, it was the essence of Tennessee.
We connected with Little River Road eventually, via Nuebert Springs, McCannon, and Martin Mill, among others. The final push to the turnaround point was the 11 mile climb to the top of the Foothills Parkway, at Look Rock.

Looking back at the ground we covered getting to the top of the world:

Tired, Trashed and Over-worked

Food show season is tough like marathon training.
I've not been a fan of training throughout my riding years, but here I am 7 weeks before the Pisgah Mountain Bike Adaventure Race (PMBAR), with nothing but a beer-gut to show for a winters worth of riding. March is shapping up to be the hardest month of my working career, leaving riding time sparse.
In spite of it all, I'm putting time in where I can...
I made it to Dupont State Forrest, NC, on Sunday. Then headed to Gatlinburg for a foodshow, making it out trail running in the Smokies Mon., Tues., Wed.

Traveling in the Dead of Night

I've been on the move like Fletch on a water buffalo. Yet I'm 4 for 4 on the last few days of riding.
I was in Austin, TX the previous week for my cousin Jessica's wedding. It was good to see family and freinds. I rode with old compadre's and my dad's friend too.

This week I was in the other
music city, Nashville, TN. So I spent the evenings slam dancing in the woods after dark. Hamilton Creek's rocky trails delivered the cage match. My Jedi skills proved a worthy match for stealthy blows; like when the night lights battery died, out of nowhwere, leaving nothing but the Jedi senses to guide the way, no fear, calm like a river.
It's good to be home and hangning with the epic ride mafia, where we pulled a Freeride Friday poking through Haw Ridge.
